There are precious few days to take your pup out to enjoy what's left of the fall colors. The weather this weekend should be perfect, but life is busy and we can't always make a trip to a state park or the Northwoods. What to do? Take an hour or 2 and head to the northwest side's forest preserves. LaBagh Woods at Foster/Cicero is my local favorite for a peaceful woodsy stroll along the north branch of the Chicago River. A bit farther north and west are Forest Glen Woods, Edgebrook Woods and Caldwell Woods. All are a quick and easy trip from the north side of the city and are easily accessible from the expressway. There's also plenty of free parking. The fall colors, crunching leaves and abundant wildlife, including deer, make it easy to forget you're still in the city. Your dog will love the adventure, you'll enjoy some fresh air while it's still nice out, and you won't spend a ton on gas!
